Allergy Shots
Subcutaneous immunotherapy, allergy injections
Subcutaneous immunotherapy, or allergy shots, is a form of allergen immunotherapy. Allergen immunotherapy is the only proven, disease-modifying method of treating one’s environmental allergies. While technologies have advanced immunotherapy since its conception over 100 years ago, the science remains the same: by gradually exposing themselves to the allergens they’re allergic to, allergy sufferers may attain long-term allergy relief from their symptoms.
Allergy shots are a method of allergen immunotherapy that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Allergy Shots Under the UAS Protocol
The first step for any patient interested in allergy shots is to speak to their provider and discuss their symptomology and medical history. If it is determined that they may benefit from an allergy test, one can be conducted on-site.
After conducting an on-site allergy test, the provider and patient will determine if allergy shots are an advisable and preferred option for them. If the patient elects to move forward with allergy shots, a personalized treatment plan will be developed for them based on the results of their allergy test.
Through the UAS model, patients can safely self-administer their allergy shots at home, eliminating the need to make in-office visits for each dose. Patients are trained how to comfortably and confidently self-administer their allergy injections, as well as educated on all requisite safety procedures, before having their first set of vials released to them.
While short-term symptom relief may be experienced within the first six months of treatment, it is recommended that patients undergo a course of allergy shots treatment for at least three years to experience long-term results.
